BRAKE BLOCK RANGE

CBC has a range of 36 different types of brake blocks for various applications and produces specialised brakes for underground muddy condition in the Mining sector and customised brakes for various industries such as Sugar Mills and Paper Industries.

The freight product offering ranges from low friction cast iron replacement type blocks through to high friction blocks for heavy haul transportation, such as iron ore and coal.

CBC supplies a full range of diesel and electric locomotive type brake blocks suitable for cast iron replacement. These are characterised by a low dynamic friction and a high static friction to ensure that heavy freights remain stationary on inclines or during shunting and signaling operations.

CBC’s low friction products are used and approved throughout Africa, whilst its high friction AAR M 926- equivalent products are used and approved internationally.

For the passenger rail industry CBC develops and supplies brake blocks and disc pads that emit low noise and low odour, as well as low-wear wheel brake blocks for coastal and wet regions.

CBC delivers both surface and underground solutions to the mining industry, including products approved for use on underground locomotives, used in deep level mining operations with wheel diameters of 10 to 12 inches.

There is a sense of pride in knowing that we are the best at what we do and will endeavour to grow with this confidence in the quality of our Brake Components.

TECHNICAL FOCUS

Excellence in manufacturing is based on a commitment to continuous improvement. We aim to achieve the highest quality products at the lowest practical cost. CBC has in-house a full-scale rail brake dynamometer which facilitates quality testing, as well as new product development. This facility is currently the only biggest facility in Africa. This technology enables the simulation of the momentum and inertia of a wide variety of rail vehicles, allowing characteristics including brake effectiveness, reduced wear, specification compliance, static torque, parking brake, noise and environmental impact to be tested in house. The hydraulic drive motors of the dynamometer are capable of 14 000 Newton meter torque and speeds of up to 170 kilometers per hour.

CBC has the ability to develop new products for various railway applications, new friction material products.
